And Moo basically taught herself to swim by being totally kamikaze in the water!
The girls and I went to the zoo for my birthday then we went out for Wagamama with grandma & grandad.

Moo and I had a day in the children’s ward as she had a viral chest infection. She’s now on the mend. Beanster did art to take her mind off worrying about her sister

Helix fun

Today was mostly spent at the park at the Helix with home ed friends. We did some house jobs first thing; I did the laundry and made sauce for tea and Beanster emptied the dishwasher.

At the park the girls did lots of climbing and running around. I have no idea what Beanster was up to most of the time but after many weeks of trying she has finally discovered she can actually fly!

Moo braved the rope bridge although she needed help up and down as she can’t manage the ladders yet.

I annoyed a woman at the park who insisted on helping Beanster when she was climbing. Why do people do that?! She wasn’t in danger and as she doesn’t talk to people she doesn’t know won’t have asked for help unless the woman asked her if she was stuck. Anyway, when I saw her interfering, I went over and asked Beanster if she was ok, reminded her she was good at climbing and told her to ask if she needed help. The woman looked most put out that I didn’t thank her for interfering with what my child could work out by herself or would have shouted for help if she’d really needed it. What is with some folk?!

After some very complicated games that involved climbing up the big tube slide in bare feet & playing on the big swing;(Photos courtesy of my friend E)

the kids decided to play in the water fountains. It was a grey September day in Scotland but kids don’t care. They had a ball then got into dry clothes before we headed off to ballet.

Birds & veg

Today we took advantage of a nice day and headed down to the woody park to to up the bird café that mummy and the girls set up. Mummy and Beanster had made some new fat cake and mummy rigged up some take away boxes to hang in the trees.

There was much climbing and swinging too.

After the park we headed up to the much neglected allotment. This year has once again confirmed we are good at growing squash and pumpkin. The sweet corn is the biggest we’ve ever managed but an investigation of one corn cob confirmed it’s not ripe yet.

We dug up the rest of the potatoes and brought home rhubarb, a spaghetti squash,  a couple of marrows, a wee pumpkin, some beetroot and a few peas and broad beans.

There are also a couple of big pumpkins that are starting to ripen so we might have home grown Halloween pumpkins this year.

Ballet

Since last year Beanster has been asking to go to “ballet class”. I don’t know where she first got the idea but it’s hung around so we signed her up to start this year. After asking around for recommendations we chose Central Scotland Ballet School This is her second week and so far she’s really enjoying it. They do about 15 minutes of tap at the start then ballet. I’ve been watching these last 2 weeks as she’s asked me to wait outside rather than going through to the café and she’s joining in and really seems to be having fun. We’ve said that if she still likes it next week we’ll order her the leotard and ballet shoes. They’re having a second hand sale next weekend so we’re going to see if we can get tap shoes there. She’s been letting me tie her hair up each week, (normally I’m not allowed to as she likes it “wild”). I’ve been experimenting.

Before ballet we went along to another home ed craft group we’ve not been to in ages. The group used to meet in Bonnybridge but has now moved to Grangemouth. Beanster was pleased to see her friend M and also played with some other people she hasn’t played with before. Beanster did some craft whilst Moo ate lunch.

After that they all needed a run around and there is a great park right next to the community centre. A couple of the kids took off their t-shirts so the girls did too despite it really not being that warm!

Moo had a nap on the way from home ed group to ballet and as we were early she got a bit more sleep whilst Beanster and I listened to some music and I did her hair.

Mornings & afternoons

This week Moo is back at her toddler gymnastics class which means we have to leave the house by 8.50 to get there for a 9.30 start. It’s not really that far but the traffic is bad on the morning. Every Tuesday in term time I’m extra grateful that we don’t use school because the thought of having to get them up, dressed, fed and out the door by that time every morning brings me out in a cold sweat! None of us are any good at mornings! Despite that we made it on time and Moo enjoyed herself. Beanster had taken some colouring to amuse herself but spent most of the class crawling round the hall in a lion mask and occasionally pouncing on things!

We had various jobs to do afterwards including collecting parcels, making appointments, returning library books and picking up an order from the shops. They’re filming scenes from a movie on the Peel in Linlithgow this week so the car park was closed to accommodate vehicles and horses so we parked at the other end of town and walked along.

Beanster has been getting herself very worked up about speaking to people or asking for things in shops recently but after a long chat at the weekend where we said we wouldn’t make her do anything she didn’t want to but that we weren’t going to speak for her in situations she’d chosen to go into, she’s been being very brave. She managed to tell the librarian that one of her books hadn’t checked out on the machine and then went back up to say a 2nd one had no sheet at the front for her to stamp. She also told the owner of the health food shop that she was going swimming that evening.

The girls wanted to play in the park by the Drs before we went home for lunch so we did that. Moo is getting really good at climbing.

And she loves going on these

20170829_124023
This was Beanster’s 2nd week of swimming this term and she’s doing well. She’s getting the hang of breathing and is trying really hard to keep her body flat so she makes more forward progress.

A show, a birthday and some vegetables

This morning we were heading to the Edinburgh Festival with the girls to see one of our favourite singers, Nick Cope. He writes fabulous songs for children and he is funny too. If you have never heard of him you should do a quick google/youtube search. Our ultimate favourite song is ‘The baby’s done a poo’.

Here we are waiting at the front of the queue to get in.

He was absolutely brilliant and we bought one of his CDs at the end to add to our collection.

We then went and got a bit of lunch and had it sitting on giant pillows in a park.

Beanster and Mama headed out to the Library after tea to log Beanster’s last book for her Summer Reading Challenge. She will miss the award ceremony as we are away on holiday but when she gets back she has to go to the Library to receive her medal and certificate. Whilst Beanster was away Moo played in our Fairy Garden and made tea for an imaginary Auntie Alice.

20170808_173215
For an hour or so before bed Moo and I headed to the allotment to attend to some of our veg and Beanster and Mama went to check out a possible venue for her birthday party in a few weeks. Moo was very excited to see that we have got some corn cobs growing. This is the furthest we have ever got when growing corn on the cob. Scotland is usually too wet for us to have any success, maybe this is our year to taste one!

We also have spaghetti squash, pumpkins, butternut squash, courgettes (on the verge of becoming marrows), cabbage, onions, beetroot, cauliflowers, kale and potatoes growing nicely too. There are other things in too but they haven’t come on much yet.

Oh, Beanster gave the local venue a thumbs up so now party planning begins…….

Moo has everyone to herself

Beanster was away socialising with her teenage pals so Moo had folk all to herself.

First of all we headed to Granny and Grandpa’s where she took Granny and I a trip to the park. A dolly and pram had to come too. She found it tricky to steer, but with a little guidance from Granny she managed to push it all the way to the park.

Granny enjoyed the seesaw.

20170725_111624
We played sleepovers and cafe in the house at the park and pretended we were walking all around Edinburgh.

20170725_112208
She watched a bit of TV with Grandpa.

20170725_120209
Mama and I then took her for a picnic lunch and a walk around the grounds of the House of the Binns, near Blackness.

Beanster did not make it home until after 7 o’clock. She will blog about her fabulous day when she is a little less tired from it.
