A show, a birthday and some vegetables

This morning we were heading to the Edinburgh Festival with the girls to see one of our favourite singers, Nick Cope. He writes fabulous songs for children and he is funny too. If you have never heard of him you should do a quick google/youtube search. Our ultimate favourite song is ‘The baby’s done a poo’.

Here we are waiting at the front of the queue to get in.

Beanster was a bit afraid that she was going to have to get up on stage.

Moo was a bit sleepy.

Audience participation (Beanster didn’t get up on the stage)

He was absolutely brilliant and we bought one of his CDs at the end to add to our collection.

We then went and got a bit of lunch and had it sitting on giant pillows in a park.

Beanster wanted her photo taken on top of a wall.

And then we had a play before heading back to the car.

It was granny’s birthday so we headed to her house to give her presents…

Moo chose the cake and candles and was very happy when she got her slice.

Later on the girls played in the garden.

Beanster and Mama headed out to the Library after tea to log Beanster’s last book for her Summer Reading Challenge. She will miss the award ceremony as we are away on holiday but when she gets back she has to go to the Library to receive her medal and certificate. Whilst Beanster was away Moo played in our Fairy Garden and made tea for an imaginary Auntie Alice.

20170808_173215
For an hour or so before bed Moo and I headed to the allotment to attend to some of our veg and Beanster and Mama went to check out a possible venue for her birthday party in a few weeks. Moo was very excited to see that we have got some corn cobs growing. This is the furthest we have ever got when growing corn on the cob. Scotland is usually too wet for us to have any success, maybe this is our year to taste one!

20170808_191441
20170808_192600
We also have spaghetti squash, pumpkins, butternut squash, courgettes (on the verge of becoming marrows), cabbage, onions, beetroot, cauliflowers, kale and potatoes growing nicely too. There are other things in too but they haven’t come on much yet.

Oh, Beanster gave the local venue a thumbs up so now party planning begins…….

Moo has everyone to herself

Beanster was away socialising with her teenage pals so Moo had folk all to herself.

First of all we headed to Granny and Grandpa’s where she took Granny and I a trip to the park. A dolly and pram had to come too. She found it tricky to steer, but with a little guidance from Granny she managed to push it all the way to the park.

20170725_104918
Granny enjoyed the seesaw.

20170725_111624
We played sleepovers and cafe in the house at the park and pretended we were walking all around Edinburgh.

20170725_112208
She watched a bit of TV with Grandpa.

20170725_120209
Mama and I then took her for a picnic lunch and a walk around the grounds of the House of the Binns, near Blackness.

Beanster did not make it home until after 7 o’clock. She will blog about her fabulous day when she is a little less tired from it.

Mummy and Moo day

Beanster was away out with Granny on Friday to Camera Obscura in Edinburgh so Moo and I headed for our own day out to Edinburgh Zoo. It must be one of the most vertical zoos in the world but Moo climbed almost to the top. Our girls have always been full of energy and not ones for the buggy.

A trip into the Monkey houses first.  Moo loved the Drill.

Identifying wildflowers from a book and music

This morning we went for a walk around Beecraigs and used a book Granny had brought to help us identify some wildflowers.

We identified Yellow Birds Foot Trefoil, Vetch, Rosebay Willowherb, Spear Thistle, Ragwort, Stinging Nettle, Common Hogweed, Foxglove and Buttercup amongst others.

We had a stop at the park for a play.

We followed a woodland path which took us to some trees and a wall, ideal for practising drumming outdoors.

We had lunch at Granny and Grandpa’s before Grandpa headed out to watch a bowling match.

Back at home more music was practised by Beanster. She chose to accompany Frank Turner on the harmonica as he sang ‘ I still believe’.

We started to create a transfer picture of a Roman Gladiator battle scene.

And the girls began a dig to find replica Roman artefacts.

Another busy, fun, educational day.

Woods

Today was a day spent in Beecraigs woods with friends we made at our antenatal group when I was pregnant with Beanster. We took a walk through the Highland Cow and Deer area then along beside the fishing loch, through a large woodland and onto the big playpark. Beecraigs is one of our favourite woodland jaunts and it gave Beanster and Moo plenty of opportunity to run, jump, balance, shriek like Amazon warriors, play, discuss nature, investigate and in Beanster’s case go barefoot through water, mud and woodchip. We finished our walk with lunch and ice cream at the cafe and the kids had more fun playing in the wee park, pretending to be thieves and police and jumping off the various walls. A great day had by all.

Photos today are a bit blurry due to the constant movement of the girls!

Helping the birds

Today the girls decided they wanted to have a nature day so we thought we would tackle our first RSPB Wild Challenge, making bird cakes. However, we had some other stuff to do first…..

We put some of our bee houses and air drying clay ornaments outside

Musical instruments were played (loudly), Beanster emptied and reloaded the dishwasher, breakfast was had, Moo’s crumbs were swept up, jigsaws were built, clothes were put on (well…Mummies were), jumping from the rockery  and hammering skills were practised.

After all of this the bird cakes were made and it was only half past 10!

Apparently the birds don’t need the grated cheese we put in as Moo ate it all out from the bowl of mixture!

20170707_102347
7 cakes were made.

20170707_110308
We read some stories then the girls got dressed and we headed out to shop for our lunch.

20170707_135049
After lunch it was time to set out on a nature walk and to find a location in our local area to set up a bird cafe. We chose some trees beside our favourite park. On our way we identified Buttercups, Clover, Foxgloves, Daisies, Fuschias, Thistles, Poppy, Sticky Willie, Dandelion, Rowan and nettles. Moo can now identify all of these.

Whilst at the park we played an elaborate game involving pretend food, a sleepover, Moo being a train driver and biker and taking Mummy to eat food at Beanster’s house, a disco dance ring (complete with Ed Sheeran music being played) and followed up by various baddies being fought by Supergirl (Beanster) and Batgirl (Moo).

To end Beanster decided to walk all the way home in her bare feet so she could feel different textures and apparently being barefoot stops you getting run over by cars ?!?!?!

On our return the girls helped make some soup from left over veg.

A park sort of a day

Beanster requested a trip to the park near our house with the scooters today so grandma, grandad & cousin H joined us and we headed over.

There was much scooting from Beanster & H. We thought mummy wouldn’t mind if we borrowed her scooter so grandma & grandad both had a go.

20170628_115820
20170628_115809
Moo isn’t up to much scooting yet so she mostly played in the park and on the grass and without any prompting identified daisy, buttercup and clover. She’s a smart cookie that one.

20170628_115825
20170628_121649
After grandma, grandad and H headed off we went home and headed down into Linlithgow for lunch and another park trip! We’re often the only people in the park even on a nice day but a few people joined us at the second park of the day so Beanster immediately made a friend as usual.

We finished off with trips too a few shops including Far from the Madding Crowd for a birthday card & a wee Phillip Pullman essay which was released for independent bookshop week. I love his writing.

Finally back home and some Mathseeds for Beanster and some cbeebies storytime for Moo whilst I sorted the washing
