A bit of bouncing does you good

Beanster had a rocky morning with her emotions and learning to deal with them is hard. After letting off a bit of steam with her sister on some instruments (she created her own drum kit)

2017-12-01_12-31-24

we headed over to Fife to the Forth Hedgehog Hospital and handed in some cat food to help feed the hedgehogs in their care.

We then met our HE friends for some trampolining fun. What better way to get rid of the grumps than by bouncing. The girls have not been to a trampoline park before and when they saw it they couldn’t wait to get on.

20171130_141246

Of course before you do you need to try and link feet with all your friends in the special socks.

and listen to the safety briefing.

After that was done the girls headed onto the trapolines and bounced non stop for an hour. Tired girls tonight.

Our Weekend

Moo has been choked with the cold and on her inhalers this weekend so has been rather confined to quarters for the most part.  However, she did make it out for a wee bit today and found lots to occupy her when she was inside.

Yesterday she played with her Bing toys

20171118_121855

and dressed up to play at doctors and vets.

20171118_153721

She and Beanster decorated some flower tubs and planted Spring bulbs in them.

Beanster learned a new skill, French knitting

and she practised counting different animals and objects to 10. She can do this easily now.

There was also the usual daily drawing.

Today the girls spent largely separated as Beanster had friends she wanted to see and i also needed some things at the Garden Centre.

Moo had a lazy start and played with her Superbear and tea set. She then convinced Mama to take her to McDonalds before they did a quick food shop and headed back home to the warmth.

Beanster and I headed to the Garden Centre before meeting her best pal H at the allotment.

The garden centre we go to is such a wonderful place for a young child and it is one of Beanster’s favourite places to go. It is not a place to buy plants and tools. It is….

a place where you may encounter fairies and magical wizards

Today we spotted amongst others some  Grey Squirrels, Robins, Chaffinch, Tree Creepers, Sparrows and Blue Tits.

Up at the allotment we dug the soil

and watched geese fly overhead.

Beanster and H played for ages with some canes. They became witches’ broomsticks, a canoeist’s oars, giant spider legs and ski poles.

20171119_144957

Later this evening Mama and Beanster headed to a roller disco with friends M and A. They had a fabulous time and then headed for pizza after.

But do your children learn anything?

As a home educating parent, I am often asked if our girls learn anything. ‘How can they possibly learn if they don’t go to school?’ Well, our girls learn through life. They learn by exploring the world around them, interacting with people in our community and beyond, problem solving when they encounter difficulties and basically have a lot of fun whilst doing so. They have a thirst for knowledge. They are allowed the freedom to follow their interests, which are vast in number and varied and they are on the go from the minute they wake until the moon is high in the sky and smiling down on us. Here is just a taster of the things our girls have been doing  in our ‘school’ week broken down CfE style 😉 lol

Mathematics

Counted; looked for and read numbers to 100; addition within 10 on Maths Seeds; compared sizes of objects; made patterns; worked out how different shapes fit together on top of others; used money to buy items for the foodbank; simple measuring in Science experiments

Listened to daily stories and discussed some of them; gone to storytime at Far From the Madding Crowd; Reading Eggs work; read simple signs together; read instructions together; listened to and discussed Wow in the World podcasts; written our names; made fuzzy felt and drawn pictures and told stories using them; learned to ask questions using Google assistant;

Social Studies

Visited Callander House and learned about the Romans, the Antonine Wall, life in the Central belt at different periods of time; discussed coal mining and the structure of coal at different stages in it’s development; talked about the weather and extreme weather (and made a tornado); talked about volcanoes whilst playing on a model one

We have drawn; painted; listened to different styles of music; listened to music from different eras; played the piano and role played (with each other and with friends).

YEAH i think it is safe to say OUR GIRLS ARE LEARNING.

Helix fun

Today was mostly spent at the park at the Helix with home ed friends. We did some house jobs first thing; I did the laundry and made sauce for tea and Beanster emptied the dishwasher.

At the park the girls did lots of climbing and running around. I have no idea what Beanster was up to most of the time but after many weeks of trying she has finally discovered she can actually fly!

20170920_115707

Moo braved the rope bridge although she needed help up and down as she can’t manage the ladders yet.

20170920_130238
20170920_125704
I annoyed a woman at the park who insisted on helping Beanster when she was climbing. Why do people do that?! She wasn’t in danger and as she doesn’t talk to people she doesn’t know won’t have asked for help unless the woman asked her if she was stuck. Anyway, when I saw her interfering, I went over and asked Beanster if she was ok, reminded her she was good at climbing and told her to ask if she needed help. The woman looked most put out that I didn’t thank her for interfering with what my child could work out by herself or would have shouted for help if she’d really needed it. What is with some folk?!

After some very complicated games that involved climbing up the big tube slide in bare feet & playing on the big swing;(Photos courtesy of my friend E)

Beanster’s 5th Birthday Celebrations

We’ve been so busy getting ready for and celebrating Beanster’s birthday that we haven’t managed blogging this week!

Thursday was the big day and a certain someone sneaked in early for birthday snuggles in our bed.

and breakfast before heading out for our annual trip to the safari park which is Beanster’s choice for her birthday trip every year!

We drove round the animals with Beanster on my knee helping to drive and Moo enjoying the novelty of sitting in the front on mummy’s knee.

We went on some rides and then to the big play park. Every year I take a photo of Beanster scaling the huge scramble net. It’s amazing to see how much faster she gets up there each year. Moo wasn’t too be left out so she headed up too!

Beanster loves a birthday cake but hates people singing the happy birthday song so everyone was once again on strict instructions not to. We think it’s because she doesn’t like having too stand there with everyone looking at her while they sing.

Saturday was a superhero party as requested by Beanster. There was pass the parcel, pinata and more cake, (& no singing).

Happy Birthday Beanster!

Just so festival

I have not gotten round to blogging about the Just So festival until now. Many apologies. The festival is set up on private grass and woodland grounds near Sandbach with camping and glamping. The site is split up into different sections, all magical in their own way. There are performances and activities in every section throughout each day, until late at night, so much fun was to be had.

Our highlights were the pillow fight, jelly bean architecture, bare foot walk, lantern making and parade, watching movies outside late at night, theatre for one (a one to one theatre show in the woods) and tales of animalia (more woodland theatre). You choose a tribe to belong to and throughout the weekend you can earn gold pebbles for your tribe by taking part in different activities. We were the foxes and our tribe collected the most pebbles out of all 7 tribes so we won the coveted festival trophy.

Some of our home ed friends were there too and the girls enjoyed waking up and seeing them when they poked their heads out the tent.

Here are some photos summarising the fun that we had.
